Becoming a leader in any industry or trade requires wisdom, honor & courage. Lord Baden Powell wanted his young wolf packs to follow an honor code to follow Akela. Isn’t it also true in marketing and sales? What drives the consumer to purchase from one source over another? Why do they hire a specific consultant over you? Those titans of Industry didn’t just nail cardboard on a few electric poles around town and HOPE people saw what they had to offer.
They collected wisdom. Wisdom isn’t just knowledge. Anyone can pick up a book and read. Read more about what I wrote to truly understand the power of wisdom. Honor & Courage are some of the primary aspects bestowed onto Akela in Rudyard Kipling‘s tale of The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book. He is the leader of the Seeonee pack of Indian wolves and presides over the pack’s council meetings.
How Can We Become Akela?
Many Cub Scout packs use an oath called the “Law of the Pack” to show allegiance and demonstrate their relationship to Akela and the pack:
- The Cub Scout follows Akela.
- The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
- The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
- The Cub Scout gives goodwill.
Learn wisdom as it is more than just obtaining a skill. Be upright in everything you do. Sometimes, that does take a bit of courage. In the end, you will gain respect and quite possibly, be elevated to a position of leadership just as Akela. It’s not easy. Hasn’t been for me. I have my up’s and down’s like anyone else. I would love to hear your feedback and any other insight you might have to share with me.
